Oh, Vienna (it means nothing to me)
Terminality |

It was an early start this morning, although thankfully it wasn't stupid o'clock. Our flight wasn't until 12:25pm but factor in arriving 3 hours earlier, plus the travel time to the airport, we planned leaving the hotel around 8:30am.
"I'm going to miss waking up to this breakfast" said Julie. Every day, with the exception of the glass shard, the breakfasts have been excellent.
We checked out a little later than planed but it was
fine. Our smooth connections on the underground from the Rathaus to
Karlsplatz and then to Wien Mitte-Landstraße Sixteen minutes later we arrived at the airport.
The check-in desk for EasyJet was in Terminal 1A, a small building built opposite Terminal 1. If it looked like a temporary terminal that's because it was, or at least it was originally. Built in 2005 as a temporary measure the demand for space only increased so it has become a permanent fixture. It took us a while to find it.
Eventually, with our suitcase dropped off we got air side and settled down to our pre-flight rituals. We sat in a restaurant called Zug Vogel, only for a drink.
We encountered our first robotic help, an autonumous tray mover that delivered dirty crockery to the kitchen, and clean back to a work station, navigating the restaurant floor. It wasn't serving food and drink yet, so the waitresses job was still safe for the time being.
An hour before our flight our departure gate was announced. We relocated to a very convenient cafe named Johann Strauss within spitting distance of our gate. We sat and looked back over the last few days. "Wow, we packed a lot in" I said. It really had been a wonderful trip. I think we'll look back on it as one of our favourite city breaks. Contrary to the Ultravox song Vienna will always mean something to us. Back to index >>> |
