The Full Monty

Eat. Drink. Sleep. Repeat.
Monday 22nd May 2017

It was another lovely day in Sveti Stefan with blue skies and sunshine. Breakfast was served on the balcony. Being able to eat outside was such a novelty for us. It was becoming our favourite part of the day.

I was also becoming an expert at toasting our bread in a dry frying pan! I had mine with a delicious strawberry jam whilst Julie spread this runny peanut butter over hers.

Today our plan was pretty much the same as yesterday, a largely uneventful yet most relaxing day. To have such a lazy indulgent day around the beautiful island resort was the reason we came.

The forecast was favourable so we decided to hire a lounger each for the rest of the day. We paid €15 each for our back row cheap seats. Business must have been slow because they offered us the front row which they usually charge double.

The sun was warm so we slapped on the factor 30 sun cream but then, after half an hour, it turned overcast. We could see the cloud drift towards us from the South.

We weren't disappointed, it's not as if we were here for a sun tan. Julie brought out her knitting and I caught up writting my journal as we wiled away an hour or two.

At 12pm we walked up to the cafe on the beach where we had lunch yesterday. No sooner had we arrived it began to rain. A proper heavy downpour. We couldn't have timed it any better.

Today I opted for a vegeterijanski sendvič, a panini filled with roasted veg. Whilst Julie had her meat and two veg in the form of "white pork" and chips with a side of ajvar, a thick red pepper dip.

"What's the difference between white pork and other pork?" Julie asked the waiter.

"It's from the butt" he replied, without a hint of humour.

After lunch it had stopped raining but the clouds remained. Nevertheless we returned to our loungers. We had paid for their use all day so we wanted a little longer on them, at least.

In the distance we could hear the rumble of thunder. But we stuck it out. It even began to rain again, only lightly, but we were fine. The parasols were now our umbrellas.

Apart for the two guys who were managing the loungers we were the only ones out on the beach by now. Around 3:30pm they began packing up the loungers, telling us the "beach is closed in 20 minutes".

We took the hint and left, so they could go home.

On the way up we stopped at the mini-market for some supplies. We had decided not to eat out tonight. Julie struggled to find any fresh meat. It either came in the form of cold sliced cooked meat or frozen, so she had to make do with some sliced chicken.

By the end of the day it turned nice again with the sun shaping up for another magnificent sunset. Whilst I was slaving in the kitchen Julie relaxed on the balcony.

Despite being a tiny little kitchen it had a hob and two saucepans which was enough for me to make myself a tomato sauce from a bag of ripe tomatoes.

I broke away from sweating over the stove to admire the stunning view of the sun descending behind the hills of Lovcren, and the city of Budva a few miles up the coast.

Dinner was served a little late but better late than never. I had boiled some potatoes, and mixed them with spring onions for Julie to have with her sliced chicken. I also knocked up a quick tomato salad for her.

I have to say, even if I do say so myself, the tomato sauce was sensational. Restaurant quality!

After doing the dishes we stayed out on the balcony, putting the world to rights, bringing the evening to a close before 10pm.
